‘Gotham’ Cast: Paul Reubens Playing Penguin’s Father Again 23 Years After ‘Batman Returns’ – And Michael Chiklis Talks Being A Cop During Villain Season

More and more each day, the "Gotham" cast becomes not only increasingly impressive, but also features more than a few veterans of superhero adaptations, with Paul Reubens, who once co-starred in Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" as the father of Danny DeVito's Penguin, playing the role once again.

It's been 23 years since Burton's film, the second and last starring Michael Keaton and Bruce Wayne, but the "Gotham" cast is certainly vowing to its DC Comics legacy by bringing Reubens on board, playing the same character as before, no less.

The second season of the DC prequel show has been called the Rise of the Villains, with major evil characters from the "Gotham" cast getting their own stories developed further, and, according to Polygon, that's going to include Robin Lord Taylor's character, The Penguin, with creators going through a well-elaborated backstory for the character.

Variety reports that Taylor himself gave the world the scoop on this news last weekend during the show's panel at New York Comic Con, while the rest of the "Gotham" cast spoke about what was next for the characters, as it's being said that the villains will finally get to interact with each other and so will the heroes, prompting some fairly interesting stories in the future.

That's part of what's going on with another new addition to the "Gotham" cast, Michael Chiklis, who will be playing the new sheriff arriving to lead the Gotham County Police Department, becoming James Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) boss.

"This season is called 'Rise of the Villains,' and thus far the villains have been kicking ass and taking names, and my character is serving as a counterbalance to that," Chiklis told The Hollywood Reporter about his character. "He comes in like a wild man - like a bull, not a china shop, but in a bull ring - he's the cavalry, pushing back against all these villains and looking at it as a war."

There's still no word on when will Reubens' premiere as the Penguin's father will happen, but Chiklis will make his debut this Monday night!
