Lady Gaga Talks About Anxiety And Depression

Lady Gaga found purpose in her fame and is sending out a message to those who struggle with mental health problems.

Huffington Post reports the Til It Happens To You singer opened up to Billboard Magazine this week that she, too, has her own anxiety and depression episodes, adding that those who suffer these conditions should know that they are not alone.

"I've suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life, I still suffer with it every single day," the American Horror Story actress shared. "I just want these kids to know that that depth that they feel as human beings is normal. We were born that way. This modern thing, where everyone is feeling shallow and less connected? That's not human."

The 29-year-old singer also mentioned about the effects of social media on mental health.

"These kids just want to feel human, but they feel like robots," she said. "They don't understand why they're so sad. There are scientific reasons, which the foundation researches, why you feel sad when you look at your phone all day."

Gaga, famous for her outrageous performances, has always been finding different ways to let her messages out. "People expect me to show up doing something wild," she continued. "The thing is, I'll do what I want when I want to do it. Right now, I want to help young kids come together and be friends. If I need to get the president's attention -- whatever I have to do -- I'll do it."

In pursuit of her vision, the Grammy winner started the Born This Way Foundation in 2012 to help kids struggling with different issues become the light for each other.

"When I see the friendships these kids have built. When I see a child with an eating disorder sit down with somebody who has a lifelong terminal illness and somebody who's in transition -- that makes me feel like we're doing something no one else is," she said.

"This is my life purpose, this foundation," she added. "This is why I was brought to life, I think."
