Kindle Killer: New Nook GlowLight Plus by Barnes and Noble Is Metal and Waterproof

The newest e-reader is out and it has Amazon's Kindle right in its sights. The new Nook GlowLight Plus is a complete upgrade from the older Nook models. For one, it is waterproof. That makes it a far superior alternative to the Kindle when at the beach, by the pool, or in bathtub if you are so inclined. See it here.

Barnes and Noble said that the "Nook GlowLight Plus has an advanced design that allows it to withstand water and dust, so customers can read at the beach, in the bathtub or alongside the pool without worry. The company designed the first-ever waterproof and dustproof Nook for customers who requested a durable, portable design for their reading device."

And it seems like they have done a remarkable job. The new Nook has a sleek look to it thanks to its aluminum body. The textured white border and bronze-colored back also give it a premium edge over the competition. It weighs just 6.9 ounces, Beta News reported.

The Nook GlowLight Plus uses e-ink like other e-readers but offers its newest model in 300 dpi. This makes it an ideal e-book in any lighting condition, even total darkness. 300 dpi provides enhanced contrast and twice as many pixels as previous Nooks.

Its water-resistance rating is IP67 certified. This means that it can be submerged in water for only half an hour and only up to three feet. For most intents and purposes, this water resistance should proof sufficient, Wired reported.

It has a crazy battery life of six weeks on a single charge. Custom fonts were also used to optimize the whole reading experience. It retails for $129.99 in Barnes and Noble stores nationwide, comes ad free, and includes free lifetime in-store support, Yahoo Finance reported.
