James Franco and his group 'Daddy' just inked a record deal to release an album as well as a film inspired by The Smiths, according to NME. The album and film will be entitled 'Let Me Get What I Want.'
The musical group, Daddy, is composed of James Franco and Tim O'Keefe. James Franco is an actor, director, producer, painter, poet and O'Keefe is a multi-instrumentalist.
The deal that James Franco and Tim O'Keefe just signed was an international multi-year agreement with Kobalt. According to The Guardian, each of the songs will have their own video. If these videos are watched in succession it will show a bigger cohesive story. The album will be released on 2016.
The songs that will be featured in the album are taken from Franco's book of poetry named, Directing Herbert White: Poems. In this book there are two parts called Poems Inspired by Smith's Songs.
Franco stated his respect of the band, stating: "The Smiths' songs provided inspiration for the poems, lending tone and situation". He added, "I originally wrote this sequence as a way to use one medium (music) to influence another one (poetry)... [But] once I had the sequence, Tim and I took the material one step further and turned the poems inspired by songs back into songs of their own."
One interesting fact about the deal is that The Smith's bassist Andy Rourke will be featured on each song of the album. "We are really excited to partner with Kobalt on our upcoming Daddy album and film," Franco and O'Keefe said. "Kobalt has the right forward-thinking approach to work with a project as unique as ours, where we see our work not only existing within the music realm, but extending into the film, art space and beyond on an independent basis."
This will be a one of a kind album that people will certainly find inspiring and interesting at the same time.
