Rufus Cuff: Not a Smart Watch But More Like A Mini-Tablet on Your Wrist

When phablet (mobile device which size comes between a phone and a tablet) was first introduced, it sounded weird and funny until everyone had one.  One company wanted to have the same transformation with smart watches.  Rufus Labs produced a rather large smart watch that is essentially a low-end smart phone strapped sideways to your wrist as reported by The Verge.

Meanwhile USA Today has a different perception of the smart watch.  Since it's rather enormous for a smart watch, the news site looks at it as a powerful android tablet made smaller.

Rufus Labs actually calls it "wrist communicator".  One can email, text, play games, surf the web, watch movie, play music and just about anything that you typically do with any Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connected device.  The Rufus Cuff has slot for a SIM so voice calls and messaging have to be done with internet connection.  The device has a front-facing camera and all the necessary features for a hands-free audio and video use.  The device runs on full Android operating system and is also compatible with both Android and iOS.

More so, the Rufus Cuff also serves as a fitness tracker with an on-board GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope and compass to track runs or get directions.

Rufus Cuff is quite large because of battery life, processing power and antennae strength according to Rufus Labs.  According to Gabe Grifoni, Rufus Cuff's CEO and co-founder, the Rufus Cuff is not your ordinary smart watch.

"It's not just a glorified notification center, we eventually see everyone ditching their phones.  This will replace the need for smartphones, wallets, watches, fitness trackers, everything."

The owner claims that there's a growing market of Millennials and Generation Zs who actually want it.  Among the 2,500 who pre-ordered online, he noted that most of them are young men.  "They're the cord-cutters and college students who don't want to pay so much for monthly cell contracts," Grifoni said.

Grifoni said that the company will start shipping in early 2016.  Rufus Cuff comes in three colours; Jet Black, Turbo Red, and White Out.  It also has eight different colours of interchangeable bands and price ranges from $249 to $399.
