Michael J. Fox Sitcom Cancelled By NBC

Michael J. Fox has been cancelled and replaced.

Yahoo News reported that the actor's show "The Michael J. Fox Show" has been pulled from NBC's Thursday-night lineup and will be replaced by Jane Lynch's "Hollywood Game Night," who will be taking over the 9 p.m. timeslot.

The actors last episode aired Jan. 23, but only received 2.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. Despite production shooting 22 episodes of the show, only 15 have aired so far and it is unclear what the network plans to do with the remaining seven shows.

Last week, NBC shut down production on freshman comedy "Sean Saves the World," starring actor Sean Hayes. "Sean Saves the World" reportedly averaged 4.1 million viewers and aired immediately after Fox's show on Thursday.

"We're really unhappy we can't find an audience for them in those time periods," NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt said at last month's Television Critics Association press tour. "We're still going to work hard to see what we can do on Thursday nights, but it's a real uphill battle."

Greenblatt said the network will have to be more aware about passing projects based on star power potential.

"It's hard to launch comedy even in the best of circumstances, so I guess I would say I'm more weary. It just means we have to work harder. Comedy is hard," Greenblatt said.

Fox's return to television series was highly anticipated following the success of sitcoms, "Family Ties" (1980s) and "Spin City" (late 1990s). However, an NBC rep told Vulture that the show  has not been canceled, but the looking for a new place to air after April 3.

Fox is keeping himself busy, with a returning gig on CBS's "The Good Wife". The actor will be reprising his role as attorney Louis Canning and is booked for multiple episodes on the drama.
