'Rise of The Tomb Raider' Review Roundup: Is Lara Croft's Latest Adventure a Hit?

For Xbox owners, November 10 isn't all about Fallout 4. Today, those who own an Xbox One or Xbox 360 are also getting Rise of the Tomb Raider - the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2013 reboot of the action adventure franchise.

The game once again puts players in the well-traveled boots of Lara Croft, an adventurer out to discover the world's greatest mysteries. This new title picks up a year after the events of its predecessor, with Lara out to prove herself as an explorer after her findings from the last game are discredited by Trinity - a nefarious organization that aims to use these discoveries for its own ends.

Rise of The Tomb Raider looks to correct some of the weak spots of the original, featuring a renewed emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. Is Lara's second outing better than the first? Let's look at what the critics are saying.

IGN gave the game a 9.3 out of 10, with reviewer Lucy O'Brien calling it "the most fun I've had with a Lara Croft game since 1996." She praised the growth of Lara's character over the two games, saying that her transformation into a confident heroine was well done.

Ars Technica also praised the title, calling it 'Lara's best adventure yet'.

"What's so great about Rise of the Tomb Raider is that it takes everything good about its predecessor, cranks those things up to 11, and removes most of the little problems in the process." Says reviewer Mark Walton. "Most remarkable is that while there's more of everything, the game rarely feels overblown (outside of its otherwise engaging story at least)."

The game currently sits at an excellent 87 out of 100 on Metacritic. Looks like Lara's latest adventure is a hit.
