Stay Away From These Foods if You Want a Healthy Heart

Organic or fresh foods are the most popular choices for health conscious people these days. This is due to the fact that they know that the food they consume play a vital role when it comes to their heart condition. If they eat the wrong type of food, it may carry a lot of different rick factors for heart diseases.

According to Live Science, many researchers have known for quite some time that trans-fat and sugar are both bad for the heart, however there is new information about some food ingredients such as coconut oil or artificial sweeteners can also lead to a high risk of heart problems in the future.

Dr. Amit Khera, the director of the Preventive Cardiology Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center said that there are a lot of studies that have been made that connects the nutrients and the risk factor level like the cholesterol and body weight. Many bigger studies are still needed to make correct recommendations and many researchers are doing this type of studies more and more, Khera added.

Artificial Sweeteners have been in the spotlight since some studies showed that they were connected with the zero-calorie sweeteners to weight gain or high sugar levels. However, a professor of nutrition and pediatrics at the University of Vermont, Rachel Johnson said that it can be included in the healthy diet and it may also help people with weight management. She said that it may be that people who are already overweight or obese choose these low sugar drinks in attempts to help control their weight. She pointed to several randomized control trials that showed that swapping out sugar-sweetened beverages for diet or low-calorie versions resulted in modest weight loss.

Coconut oil became widely known recently because of its known ability to help prevent heart diseases. It comes from molecules called medium-chain fatty acids, a type of saturated fat. The fatty acids raise the level of bad cholesterol; it also raises the level of good cholesterol even more. This kind of situation balances the negative effects. Many people are still confused as to whether they choose the more common coconut oil or virgin coconut oil. Coconut oil is heated in the process when it is being made, therefore it has small amounts of trans-fat while Virgin coconut oil is made simply from fresh coconut and doesn't include the trans-fat.
