Thousands of people have gathered despite the chilly temperature and a light drizzle in honor of the Royal visitors and to pay their respect to Australia's fallen Diggers, News.Com.Au reports. Umbrellas were handed to the Prince of Wales and Duchess Cornwall as they emerge from their Boeing 737 business jet at about 10:30 am.
The couple was gladly received with a Royal Salute and the singing of the British national anthem.
Governor-General Peter Cosgrove then acquainted Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and wife Lucy, deputy opposition leader Tanya Plibersek and her mum Rose, and the Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Michael Thawley.
The itinerary of Charles and Camilla includes cooking with truffles, planting trees at the arboretum, observing Remembrance Day, touring the National Museum and meeting politicians during their busy day in the capital on Wednesday.
Their royal highnesses joined the National Remembrance Day ceremony earlier in the morning. They laid commemorative crosses and placed poppy wreaths on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial.
Duchess of Cornwall will watch a truffle hunting dog demonstration together with manager Jayson Mesman and owner Sherry McCardle-English on her visit to French Black Truffles in the Majura Valley, Canberra's only truffle farm.
Around lunchtime, Prince Charles will be in the National Museum of Australia to meet with artists and children from North Ainslie Primary School.
Camilla will join Charles and will be escorted by Chief Minister Andrew for the tree planting at the National Arboretum Canberra after 2pm. Stephen Alegria, arboretum's executive manager said that each would plant a freefall pin oak, a "much-loved Canberra tree" developed by the late Dr Robert Boden in the 1960s.
The royals are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten at Government House. They are likewise expected to meet with members of the Soldier On organization.
Before heading to Western Australia on Saturday where they will mark the centenary of Gallipoli by visiting the new National Anzac Centre in Albany, Camilla and Charles will be in Sydney on Thursday.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will celebrate his 67th birthday at a beachside barbecue at Perth's Cottesloe beach.
Their Royal Highnesses will tour Perth and Kings Park at approximately 1.00 pm on Sunday.
