Origins Of Earth's Water: New Study Suggests it May Have Come from Outer Space

Earth is mostly covered with water and it is one of humans' and other living creatures' basic physiological needs. There are many questions people tend to ask about H2O. Where does the water on Earth come from? How did it get here?

Numerous scientists believed that the Earth was dry when it was initially formed. Water was present later because of a blitz of celestial impacts. The latest study contradicts this former belief however. This study believes that water was already present on Earth. As a matter of fact, Earth has gotten water from the tiny grains of dust generated from the Solar System.

If the recent hypothesis will be proven true, there are countless possibilities of humans finding Earth-like worlds throughout the galaxy.

According to Gizmodo, geochemists are dependent on isotopes in knowing the origins of the water on Earth. To be exact, experts on this field use the ratio of hydrogen to deuterium as molecular fingerprint of water. There are researches that showed the isotope of celestial or extraterrestrial rocks and that of Earth's seawater are closely matched. These studies resulted to the idea that maybe the Earth's ocean came from outer space. There are also reports that say Earth should have materials left behind from the impacts.

The most recent study emphasized the perfect piece of data of Earth's original water from volcanic rocks from Iceland and Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. These volcanic rocks have material from deep in the Earth's mantle. These materials are not smeared and are separated from Earth's changing time.  

When the experts took and studied some samples of the rock, the water inside them have hydrogen isotope ratio that is lighter than ocean water now. Some scientists believe that trapped water possibly came from the gas and dusk from the Solar System.
