As tech fans and geeks around the world know, one of the things to look forward to in September is the Apple keynote - and this Tuesday's was no exception! A new set of iPhones and the long-awaited Apple Watch were the main dishes in the latest Tim Cook conference at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino.
The new family of Apple smartphones, featuring iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, have taken Steve Jobs' company to a place in the market nobody thought would see the company: phablets, the combination between smartphone and tablet. The Apple 6 has a 4.7-inch screen with a 6.9mm width, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen and a 7.1mm width; these makes them the biggest models ever made by Apple.
The pricing was also announced: with a two-year contract, iPhone 6 will start as $199 with 16GB, while the 64GB and 128GB models would cost $299 and $399 respectively; on the other hand, his big brother iPhone 6 Plus will start at $299 for the 16GB version, $399 for the 64GB one and $499 for a 128GB-storage phone.
New features include better cameras for both new phones, with an 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.2 aperture and 1.5µ pixels and an upgraded 'iSight sensor' with an autofocus twice as fast as that of the iPhone 5S; also, HDR photos will be easier to take.
However, the biggest attraction of the show was Apple's new incursion into the smartwatch world, after 2013's release of Galaxy Gear by top competing company Samsung. The device will work in conjunction with the iPhone, being compatible with the 5, 5C and 5S in addition to the new 6 family. With a complete re-design of iOS thinking of watch functionality, it will come in three versions and will be sold by the beginning of 2015, at a starting price of $349.
The company also announced iOS 8, which will be launched on September 17.
