Melissa Rivers Gets Emotional Over Playing Her Late Mom Joan in 'Joy' -- Watch the First Clip!

Like mother, like daughter. Melissa Rivers portrays her late mother, Joan Rivers, in upcoming flick Joy. In an exclusive Entertainment, Tonight sneak peeks, the Fashion Police co-host and producer look almost identical to her mom.

In the David O. Russell-directed film, which is inspired by real-life entrepreneur Joy Mangano, played by Jennifer Lawrence, Rivers appears as her late mother in a scene set at a taping of Joan's QVC show.

Joy Mangano is an American inventor and entrepreneur known for inventions such as the self-wringing "Miracle Mop" and "Huggable Hangers."

She is the president of Ingenious Designs, LLC, and appears regularly on US television shopping channel HSN.

"I worked hard on her speech pattern, but not so much the accent because I didn't want it to be an imitation or a caricature," Melissa told ET.

The 47-year-old. television, host, admitting she gets emotional watching the scene. Melissa added.

"I can't watch myself -- especially like that," Melissa said. "I think I was so focused on the details and trying to do a good job that it never hit me that I took this crazy emotional risk until I got home and went, 'What did I just do?'"

Her treasure in the film was a secretive operation, she explained.

"My agent received a phone call, saying, 'David O. Russell wants to meet Melissa,'" Melissa said of joining the movie. "It was all very hush hush and top secret, and I went, 'OK.' In our family when they offer a job, we always joke the answer is, 'Yes, how much?'"

Her mother, Joan Rivers, was a comedian, writer, producer, and television host noted for her always controversial comedic persona-where she was alternately self- deprecating especially toward celebrities and politicians.

Joan died in September 2014 at the age of 81 from complications during a routine surgical procedure on her vocal cords. Melissa, her only daughter, has since filed malpractice lawsuits.
