Once again, it's that time of the year when chocolates and those self-indulging desserts are in season, and the best thing about it is, you can hide all the holiday calories you've gained under huge layers of sweaters and coats.

But it can't be called a holiday if there's only one good news, right? Well here's another one to add to your holiday cheer, if you're trying to lose weight this holiday season (which is the hardest thing to do) or at least trying to watch what you eat, and making sure it's still healthy, there are a few holiday foods you can mix up in the comforts of your kitchen.

The truth is, you don't have to pass out from eating then wake up feeling full from all the things that you ate, but you also don't have to say goodbye to your diet. You just need to cut the majority of sugar, preservatives, and trans-fats in your desserts. Here are some dessert recipes that will surely captivate your taste buds.

Rhubarb Cranberry Pie

Rhubarb is a plant which is part of the buckwheat family of plants. It has a reddish stalk topped with green leaves; the stalks have a tart taste that blends well with pies and other desserts. It contains a lot of vitamins and nutrients. This includes fiber, protein, vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Cranberries also contain vitamins and also lower the risk of urinary tract infections, cancer, as well as high blood pressure.

So mixing these two together in a simple, healthy pie recipe can bring good things. Since the 2 are tarts, it'll need sugar and butter to balance the flavors.

Dark Chocolate Bark

Instead of binging on milk chocolate Christmas candies, focus on the dark chocolate this holiday season. Dark chocolate comes with a slew of health benefits, including improving brain function and heart health. Mix in some walnuts and dried cranberries or cherries to create a delicious and antioxidant-filled chocolate bark.

Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie doesn't have to be constricted to Thanksgiving; bring it to the table for Christmas, too. Besides, it's one of the healthiest holiday desserts out there: Pumpkin pie is low in calories and contains a high amount of protein, fiber, and water-soluble B vitamins, which provide a load of health benefits from boosting neurological health to metabolism.
