How Green Is Your 'Green' Juice?

It has become a habit for some of us to start our day with a glass of green juice. This has become a hot health trend, knowing these beautiful green blends can give us that big boost of nutrients our body needs. However, juices and smoothies filled with kale and spinach aren't all that. It's not the kind of green; some environment loving people refer to, not the eco-friendly one.

The number of people who have fallen in love with juicing have dramatically increased over the years. It helps them consume fruits and vegetables per day, and drinking them makes them feel virtuous.

Below are some helpful tips in making a juice that is not just healthy for you, but healthy for the planet, too.

Make your own

Do away with juices in disposable packaging you buy in the stores. Even though you recycle the bottles, it will still need a lot of energy and water. So instead of buying, you can use a juicer or a blender at home to control not only your ingredients but also to save money and cut down on trash.

Be sparing with "superfoods"

Acai and Cacao are some of the exotic tropical species that are full of nutrients. But these "superfoods" usually come from faraway places.  For most people, when they see this tip, they'll be up and ready to give up chocolates, tea, or coffee if it's not available in their regions. It's not the issue at hand to be honest, but it will be friendlier to Mother Nature to choose produce that can commonly be found close to home.

Go organic

Experts recommend organic juice for different health reasons, but organic agriculture is without a doubt more important for our planet's health. When we purchase organic fruits and vegetables for our juice, we are supporting and encouraging farmers who use less harmful pesticides and less synthetic fertilizer in their produce.

You see, you don't really need to spend so much, or travel to faraway places to have your daily dose of "greens."
