Cool Movie Snacks That Are Better Than Popcorn

For movie watchers, there's nothing better than to watch a great film which munching away on some delicious snacks. While popcorn is the quintessential movie snack for a lot of people, it does get old to keep on making popcorn at home, or ordering it at the movies.

What's more, there are numerous studies that state that "movie popcorn" is pretty unhealthy! On average, a large tub of popcorn (which is what most people get to make the most out of what they pay) contains more than 100 grams of fat and about 1,300 calories. That's more than half of a person's DRM for calories! Throw in the sodium levels too (because popcorn just doesn't taste good without salt), and you've got yourself one unhealthy snack.

So, here are some great alternatives to popcorn if you have a case of the munchies while watching some screen. You'll still that that satisfying crunch that most people love in popcorn, and depending on your preference - sweet or salty - you'll also be getting the delicious treat!

1. Trail Mix

Go for organic trail mixes that incorporate a lot of different ingredients so that you get a burst of flavors and textures with every bite. Good-quality trail mixes have a mixture of dried fruits, nuts, seeds, and chocolate, so you're getting a good bite with every handful you munch on.

2. Frozen fruits such as grapes, watermelon, or apples

Of course, this won't really work for movie houses unless you're in the mood to take some frozen fruit in a sealed and insulated container from home. However, if you do go through the trouble of making and bringing this delicious snack from home, it's worth it! Frozen fruits are naturally sweet and they are crisp as well, making for a healthy and satisfying cold snack.

3. Nuts

Crunchy, salty or sweet, and packed with vitamins and healthy fats, there's no question that a bag of nuts is a good movie snack. It's portable, and if you're going for the shelled versions, there's no trash to deal with at the end of the movie!

4. Hard pretzels

Hard pretzels are a fantastic blend of salty and crunchy, and they are a great choice for movie snacks. You can pair with them other movie snacks (and this is where you can indulge yourself a little bit) such as chocolates, caramels, or marshmallows, for a sweet and salty treat.

5. Veggie sticks

If you're going all-out with your healthy snacking, nothing beats freshly made, crisp veggie sticks! Simply julienne some carrot sticks, Jicama, or even turnip, toss with a bit of lime juice, chili powder, sea salt, and a dash of sesame oil for an Asian kick to your snacks!
