Meido Kafe in Japan Features Servers Dressed as Maids

Tokyo has been known for many things, most of which is related to technology, industry and advantages. However, there is a type of café in Japan, which is kind of infamous and known as maid cafés.

The name Maid Café is drawn from the Japanese term Meido Kafe, and for those who have never heard of it, it is exactly as the name sounds.

According to Buzzfeed, there are approximately a hundred Meido Kafe in Tokyo as of now. Most of them are located in a neighborhood called Akihabara, which is the otaku or the nerd district among the locals.

The point of each Meido Kafe is to be as cute as possible, and that is why the women working at the Meido Kafe are given the dress of a maid, and also bunny ears to make them look cute enough.

The women who work at Meido Kafes are usually between the age of 16 to 25.  They generally make about 900 yen an hour working in the café, which is quite standard according to the local Japanese market.

One specialty of the Meido Kafes is that they entertain their guests with singing and dancing in addition to serving them drinks and food.

Each customer is given a set of bunny ears when they enter the café and order for food. Additionally, there are bunny carvings on the food ordered. For example, if a customer orders a cappuccino, they will be served one with a cute bunny drawn on it.

When someone orders a combo item, they are given an extra set of bunny ears to take back home. They are also provided with a Polaroid with a maid server.

Additionally, the dresses of the maid servers can be distinguished based on their position and their seniority. Each person has a ribbon attached to their dress which makes it easier for outsiders to understand the position.

So, it seems that the maid café in Tokyo is quite popular, and it even provides employment to locals.
