Dairy Queen ice cream is great, and what's better is you can get one for free on Tuesday, March 15.
The giveaway will be happening all day, and customers will be receiving one cone of vanilla ice cream each. To avail one, simply visit the nearest Dairy Queen branch near you - if you can't locate any, you can use the branch locator on its website. However, there is a limit of one free cone per person and this promo is only happening in non-mall US store locations.
Currently, the restaurant has over 6,300 branches in 49 American states and a few other countries, making it a global brand. It is currently the United States' largest ice cream-selling restaurant, and has been around since 1940. It was founded by Sherb Noble, who opened the first branch in Joliet, Illinois. The original, two-story building is now occupied by a church, but it still stands as a landmark. Since then, it has grown to become an industry leader not just in soft-serve ice cream, but also in cakes, pastries, and even burgers and fries.
Dairy Queen also claims to have developed soft-serve ice cream, through the efforts of Sherb Noble's friend, John Freemont McCullough. Before Dairy Queen existed, they sold the product in a store owned by Noble in 1938 in North Dakota, two years before the chain was founded. They sold 1,600 servings on the first day - approximately one every 4.5 seconds.
The restaurant chain also serves hot food and are full-service restaurants, as opposed to others which just serve ice cream. There are two types of distinctive Dairy Queen stores that do this, namely Dairy Queen Brazier and Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.
Apart from its soft-serve ice cream, its most popular products include the Blizzard, which is ice cream blended with a mix of ingredients, from candy, brownies, and cookies. Though you won't be getting a Blizzard for free on Tuesday, you might be tempted to get one after a serving of ice cream!
