Starbucks Rewards 2016: Get A Discount If You Bring Your Own Coffee Cup

Starbucks has an exciting offer for anyone who is willing to join them in their pursuit to reduce waste. If you bring your own cup to Starbucks, you get to avail their offer. Customers get a discount of 50p as per the offer.

Coffee cups are being a huge problem to the environment. Survey says that nearly 2.5 billion paper cups are dumped in Britain every year.

Starbucks have made this interesting discount offer hoping that other coffee houses such as costa would follow their plan as well. Starbucks hope to run this offer for two months trial period from April this year, after which it would be reviewed by them and then made permanent.

Though the environment minister Rory Stewart suggested the idea of tax for the disposable coffee cups, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs denied his suggestion. According to him the 5p charge on plastic bags was a success and so a similar plan of taxing disposable coffee cups would also help in reducing the waste that is going out into the environment.

The offer came into the picture after the news which stated that coffee shops such as Starbucks, costa, Pret and other brands are falsely declaring that their cup is being recycled. The truth is that only one in 400 cups is actually being recycled.

On their website, Starbucks states: "We have made substantial progress to reduce the impact of waste generated in our stores and our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint focuses on three main areas: reducing the waste associated with our business, increasing recycling rates and promoting the use of reusable cups." Thus, they declare their interest in managing waste and protecting the environment.

With this offer in Starbucks, waste campaigners can finally rejoice as their work against waste production is finally producing fruit.
