Ina Garten, AKA The Barefoot Contessa, AKA the queen of effortless entertaining, has sparked a breakfast controversy. Her method of cutting bagels? In thirds! Whaaaaaat?

Yes, you read that right. According to ABC News, instead of cutting bagels in half, Ina Garten slices her bagels into a thicker center and two end pieces. Is she a sandwich savant, or is this bagel blasphemy?

Social Media Bagel Buzz

Her video has been viewed over 3.5 million times and has divided the web. Some folks are horrified by the unorthodox technique, claiming she is defiling an age-old bagel-slicing standard. Others are intrigued by the potential benefits of a triple-decker bagel. We're leaning toward the latter since you can get twice the cream cheese and lox on your bagels with this method, and more is our favorite flavor.

Is This Genius or a Gimmick?

Despite our gluttonous needs, Garten cuts her rolls with holes this way to create two thinner bagel sandwiches. OK, you lost us there, Ina. She claims it leads to a better flavor balance. Really? Did we not just tell you that MORE is the perfect flavor balance in our book? Plus, by using two bagels, she gets three "nice little sandwiches." It's a sneaky money-saving hack, she claims but we remain skeptical.

Whatever your preference, we always suggest you be careful when slicing any kind of bread. Believe it or not, almost 2000 people a year end up in the ER with bagel-related injuries. Nosh nice and stay safe folks.
