Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's Son, Discharged From the Navy Over Cocaine Use

Hunter Biden, son of vice president Joe Biden was released from his duties in the United States Navy after he tested positive for cocaine. Hunter Biden seized holding any office in the military after his release.

Hunter Biden was discharged from his duties in the US military in February. The Navy reported that Biden was discharged barely a year after he was selected for the position of part time public affairs officer at the Navy Reserve. Initially, the Navy did not give any reason for the 44 year old's dismissal, only recently did details emerge that the vice president's son was discharged over cocaine use.

Hunter Biden released a statement soon after read by his attorney in which he stated that he respected the Navy's decision and that he was moving forward with his life. He added that his family's love and support would help him in the process.

"It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge," Hunter Biden said.

Biden decided late in life to join the Navy. He was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy Reserve last year after making the decision to join the service in 2012. Because Biden was 42 at the time, he required a special waiver to be accepted into service.

The Vice President speaks of his children often and fondly. His last known mention of his son Hunter was when the two, in December, went on a trip to Asia, where the Vice President praised his son' work as the chairman of the World Food Program USA.  "I'm so incredibly proud of him," the Vice President, Joe Biden said.

The terms of Hunter's separation are unclear. However, members discharged from the military after failing a drug test do not receive an honorable discharge.
