New England ‘Patriots’ Post A Racist Tweet And Internet Goes On Mayhem

'Patriots' Racist Tweet - The New England NFL Team, the Patriots, gained their first million followers on Twitter and their touching celebratory idea rapidly went awry.

It happened on Nov. 13 that the New England Patriots became the first NFL franchise to reach the million followers on Twitter. And they thought of a wonderful idea to celebrate and give something back to the fans.

Through Deadspin, they created a device that thanked specific followers for reaching the seven figures number, according to NBC Sports. Then, the Twitter handle of the follower would appear in a jersey from the Patriots.

There was a slight mistake, though that team didn't realize until it was too late; one tweet that they meant for it to be congratulatory, ended up being racist.

"@IHATEN**GERSS, thanks for helping us become the first NFL team with 1 million followers!" the post said and a jersey with the same name appeared, too.

The fans got offended and couldn't believe the post. That's why, some hours later, the Patriots removed this post and apologized immediately.

"We apologize for the regreatable tweet that went out from our account. Our filtering system failed and we will be more vigilant in the future," the team posted publicly, even if the racist offense wasn't their direct fault.

Still, I suppose, and like TMZ referred to it, the plans in this case backfired. They failed to see that some of the followers could have Twitter handles that wouldn't be exactly names, but there could also be unexpected ones like the one which caused the problem.

It was forgotten, though, and most fans who posted in response to the apology stated that it was a mistake and things are good all over again.

Once more, it's not that the Patriot themselves, one member or representative, said something racist. Rather, it was a mistake from the system. They simply didn't realize about it until it was too late.
