  • 'Rare Christmas Full Moon Comes After Superblood Moon Eclipse of 2015

The fact that 'Star Wars' first hit the screen on the same year as the Christmas full moon in 1977 and the new 'Star Wars' productions under Disney's ownership released their first film on the same year as the new Christmas full moon this year is very largely coincidental, but the fact of the last full moon of 2015 coinciding with Christmas is pretty interesting.

  • 'Blackest Material Known May Lead to Breakthrough in Energy and Technology

The material, which is 26 percent darker than what was previously considered the blackest material known to man - the carbon nanotubes, was initially inspired by a very white cyphochilus beetle that the researchers observed. They decided to take the cue from the beetle, which shell has scales that form a photonic crystal structure and have an exceptional capacity to reflect light.
  • 'Moon Cracks Open from Pull of Earth's Gravity

High resolution images from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) revealed 14 lobe-shaped fault cliffs. Such cliffs or scarps are normally formed when the heated interior of the moon cools and contracts allowing the solid crust of the moon to 'fold'. These tectonic features of the moon are typically dozens of yards or meters in height and less than 10 kilometres in length. Yahoo News reports that with the LRO images, scientists may have identified that the pull of the Earth's gravity is possibly opening up faults in the moon's crust.
