New Godzilla Movie - It's Japan's turn to bring their original monster back. They are planning to make a release date on 2016 for the newest version of the "Godzilla" classic.
In 1954, the first "Godzilla" movie came out. It was called "Gojira" and directed by Ishiro Honda. It was also Japanese. After that one, a lot of other "Godzillas" came out in newer movies.
The latest release was in 2014, directed by Gareth Edwards and featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as main characters.
The movie earned $525 million worldwide and JPY 3.2 billion ($26 million) in Japan, with Warner Bros. and Toho co-distributing. So basically, it made a huge amount and was actually one of the big releases of the year.
After this, Toho decided to make a "Godzilla" new movie of their own and bring the monster back to Japan.
"The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood. Toho hopes to make Godzilla a character that will represent Japan and be loved around the world by the time of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics," producer Taichi Ueda said and Variety noted.
Another idea that Toho has to make Godzilla part of the new generation is also to erect a giant Godzilla statue by April of next year in the Toho Cinemas Shinjuku.
In addition, the studio has launched a Godzilla Strategy Conference (Godzi-Con), which is a committee of executives and directors, who plan to think of strategies for Godzilla to become a brand.
The plan is for the new Godzilla movie to be released on 2016 but before that and while doing it, to make Godzilla already visible in Japan.
Meanwhile, a second movie is planned to be released on 2018 from the first Godzilla, directed by Edwards this year.
So, seemingly one thing that won't be lacking these following years will be Godzilla versions.
