Supergirl CBS: Superman’s Cousin Kara OFFICIALLY On CBS, With Melissa Benoist And Calista Flockhart! [PHOTO]

Though production of the DC Comics-based series has been going on for a while, it wasn't clear whether it'd be picked up, but earlier this week "Supergirl" CBS was confirmed by the network, as they try to make a jump into new, superhero territory to mix up their crime drama formula.

Before the "Supergirl" CBS announcement, Food World News had already reported vastly on the upcoming show, including Melissa Benoist being cast as Kara Zor-El, Superman's biological cousin and among the few survivors after the destruction of planet Krypton; other stars will include Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chuler Leigh, David Harewood and even Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent in the 90s series "Lois & Clark."

According to Time Magazine, the new "Supergirl" CBS show was created by Greg Berlanti, the executive producer behind the other popular DC Comics shows currently on television, namely "Arrow" and "Flash," and Ali Adler from "The New Normal," both of whom will be working with the top bosses of the two other DC shows, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter.

Deadline reports that, before being officially picked up earlier this week, the "Supergirl" CBS show had had an early deadline to make a decision about the pilot, due to the contract between CBS and Warner Bros. TV.

As Variey reports, the new "Supergirl" CBS show will tell the story of Kara Zor-El, a survivor from Krypton, who like her cousin Kal-El (Clark Kent) has been hiding her superpowers while trying to fit in; however, at age 24, she finally decides to embrace her true nature of a Krypton native with what are considered superpowers on Earth.

Of course, this leads to a life fighting crime while trying to keep a normal and human life, balancing out her superhero reality with an attempt to work and even find love as a human.

The "Supergirl" CBS show will start airing on the 2015-2016 season!
