According to OK! Magazine, the reason for Patrick Dempsey's "Grey's Anatomy" death might have more to do with his personal life than with his career, though; it seems like he was written out of the show after a scandal broke out in the middle of shooting, as he was having an affair with someone on set.
The Irish Independent reports that the Patrick Dempsey "Grey's Anatomy" scandal didn't make it to the media at the time, but it seems like Ellen Pompeo, who played Dempsey's on-screen wife Meredith Grey on the show, found out he was having an affair with a young woman working on the set and told his wife Jillian.
Seemingly, Pompeo did this because she's close friends with Jillian and was completely furious upon finding out about the affair; following the realization of the huge Patrick Dempsey "Grey's Anatomy" problem, the married couple had a fight on-set that everyone knew about, including the series' creator Shonda Rhimes, who decided (after some discussion with Pompeo) to boot the actor out of the show.
"Patrick had an inappropriate relationship with a young woman who worked on the set. There was tension in Patrick and Ellen's relationship for years before the final blowup. [She] was sick of his behavior on and off set," said the source to inTouch Weekly about Patrick Dempsey's "Grey's Anatomy" death, according to KDrama Stars.
