Police Investigators Believe Employee Was Involved in Escape Plan

Police investigators believe that Joyce Mitchell, an employee at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, was involed in the escape of two convicts. The convicts, David Sweat, 34 years old, and Richard Matt, 48 years old, escaped Clinton Correctional Facility with the use of power tools they got from the Prison itself.

David Sweat, and Richard W. Matt, were both serving long sentences for commited murder. Matt was convicted and sentenced for 25 years to life, for the kidnapping and death of a man in 1997, while Sweat and an unknown accomplice killed a deputy Sheriff in 2002 by shooting him more than a dozen times and was sentenced to life imprisonment without chance of parole.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo of the state of New York is offering a $100,000 reward for any valid information leading to the whereabouts of the two convicts. Prison guards discovered the inmates beds inside the prison were stuffed with clothes to serve as decoys for the escaped convicts in an attempt to fool the guards doing their rounds. Matt and Sweat apparently used power tools to escape the Prison.

Police are also investigating the alleged inside help by a prison worker. Joyce Mitchell, an idustrial traning supervisor, is being questioned for being an accomplice in the recent prison breakout. She is in-charge of inmate work assignments. There is still no word about their whereabouts, but Police are still continuing there search for the escaped convicts, and the investigation about, wether or not Joyce Mitchell is actually an accomplice in the escape of David Sweat and Richard Matt, is still ongoing as well.

The person close to the investigation said authorities believe Joyce Mitchell - an instructor at the prison tailor shop, where the two convicts worked - had befriended the men and was supposed to pick them up Saturday morning, but didn't. The person said that was one reason the manhunt was focused so close to the prison. The person was not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
