On June 24, 2015, Britain's Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were greeted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel as they arrived at the Chancellery in Berlin and the world's most powerful woman welcomed the world's most famous woman with a handshake.

The four-day state visit to Germany of 89-year-old monarch and her husband, 94-year-old Prince Philip was hosted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who presides over the richest economy in Europe and is the central broker in the massive euro-bailout deal.

The Britain's Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip started their jam-packed day at Berlin's Bellevue Palace, and were greeted by President Joachim Gauck, Germany's head of state, and his partner, Daniela Schadt. The Queen and the Prince then signed a guest book.

A formal greeting by a military honor guard was addressed to the royals as Elizabeth strolled across the grounds with Gauck. A band then  played the German national anthem and also 'God Save the Queen.'

Queen Elizabeth and her husband took a leisurely boat ride along the Spree River, the royals waved at hundreds of school children holding British and German flags. The children packed the bridges along the route.

When Merkel and Elizabeth were walking through the chancellery to a terrace, Merkel pointed out the former course of the Berlin Wall. Merkel told Queen Elizabeth: "And where the train goes, there, there was the wall ... and I lived in East Germany, just a few hundred meters behind these railways."

In another room, a warm welcome was expressed again by Chancellor Angela Merkel to the queen, and told the Queen that her visit coincides with the end of World War II 70th anniversary.

According to the Telegraph, at the Hotel Adlon near Berlin's Brandenburg gate is where the royal couple are staying. It's the same place where Michael Jackson infamously dangled his baby from a balcony.

Merkel said in a podcast released from the Bundeskanzlerin: there is "a lot of common ground in politics" between the two nations. Merkel added, "I hope that the UK remains in the EU."
