Caitlyn Jenner Costume: Company Releases Disguise Based On ‘I Am Cait’ Star, Critics Call Out Transphobia [+PHOTO]

Ahead of that night at the end of October where everyone dresses up as monster or even celebrities, a company has released a new Caitlyn Jenner costume in honor of the athlete turned LGBTI activist, and while they meant to honor Jenner's struggle and success to find acceptance, people all over the country are turning against the idea.

Spirit Halloween created the Caitlyn Jenner costume as a part of their larger collection based on celebrities, reportedly to celebrate the life and message of the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star, but it seems the company might be the only one in the U.S. that doesn't find the idea offensive.

According to MSNBC, the Caitly Jenner costume controversy first began earlier this week, when spirit Halloween announced the release of their new disguise, based on Jenner's likeness during the famous Vanity Fair cover where she introduced herself as Caitlyn weeks after announcing herself (still being called Bruce) as a transgender person to Diane Sawyer.

"You probably won't break any Twitter records when you wear this outfit like Caitlyn did, but you'll be sure to get a few laughs out of your friends and the other guests at the get together," reads the description of the Caitlyn Jenner costume on website anytimecostumes.com, featuring a man wearing the white corset and shorts with a sash reading the words "I Am Caitlyn" as a part of the disguise.

The Drum reports that following the announcement of the Caitlyn Jenner costume, besides outrage in social media, there's a new petition on Change.org to keep it off sales over its very transphobic message.

According to The Independent, Spirit Halloween has attempted to explain they're selling the costume out of respect for Jenner, but LGBTI supporters feel differently, with many saying it's mockery and disrespectful.

For now, there has been no change in the status of the controversial Caitlyn Jenner costume.
