Latest Health Craze: Staring at the Sun Can Help You Lose Weight

A new health trend in Hong Kong has women from ages 20-40 years old staring at the sun just before it sets.  This women believe that it will replace their need for food and even improve their vision and sleep as reported in Coconuts Hong Kong.  One of the women who observes this newest health craze explains that the solar energy absorbed from the sun can substitute actual, real food.

Now it may actually sound crazy however this practice is said to be an ancient therapy that started over 2000 years ago.  Apparently, looking at the sun is said to replace the need for a normal diet, giving you the energy to last the entire day without eating. 

As reported in The Journal, a 2011 documentary called 'Eat The Sun' explains how the health trend works.  Followers of this trend are found to stare at the sun for 10 seconds then adding 10 more seconds each day until they reach up to a maximum of 44 minutes a day.  This method is believed to cure all mental and physical ailments and also believed to lose one's appetite or need for food.

One dieter said in an interview, "We practice sun-gazing as a substitute for eating.  Some of us who have finished the therapy now eat less, and others don't have to eat at all."

A group of around 10 women head out to the Sam Ka Village beach in Lei Yue Mun every evening.  They take off their shoes, don their sunglasses before setting timers on their phones to stand and stare at the sun.  Some do have the hindsight to put tissue or use umbrella to protect their skin.

According to a frequent beachgoer nicknamed Wing, he often sees this group of women arrive in two different times of day, either in the morning or early in the evening to stare directly at the sun.  Absorbing too much solar energy perhaps, some would fan themselves.  Apparently, these followers of the sun do not wear sunglasses and instead wear pinhole glasses which they feel do not let in enough UV rays to cause any damage to their eyes.
