3 New Key Food Stores in Staten Island Will Create 200 Jobs

The longtime operating supermarket chain, Key Food, is set to open three new stores in Staten Island by June.

The locations for the stores are in South Beach, Arden Heights and Port Richmond, according to SILive. The stores, which are each independently owned and operated, will reportedly create 200 new jobs.

"This will put us over 300 jobs that Key Food has created in the borough," Vice President of Business Development Gino Palummo said. "These jobs include managers, cashiers, stock people, and meat, deli and seafood people."

Key Food already employs 100 people at its' two existing locations in West Brighton and Castleton Corners.

Longtime patrons of Staten Island welcome the new additions.

"I know the neighborhoods on Staten Island. Most people want to find all their needs in one store," Palummo said. "Key Food supermarkets are individually operated by the owners, who are at the stores. Our operators really dig into the community, and do whatever it takes to make the community happy."

The three stores will differ in size. The Arden Heights location will be housed in a 28,000-square-foot space and is set to open in early May. The area was previously home to a King Kullen supermarket, Live reported.

The South Beach location, which will open in early May and will be built in a 9,600-square-foot area.

The final store, in the Port Richmond location, will be built in a 9,000-square-foot-area. It's slated to open up in June.

The supermarket chain, which was founded in Brooklyn in 1937, has been doing well lately and the additions are part of the company's recent expansion.

"In the past year we've grown from 120 to 133 stores," Palummo said.

The chain currently makes $1.2 billion in sales annually, according to Live.
