Xiaomi News: After Massive Success in Asia, Tech Company Prepares its US Invasion

The company behind Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is targeting US customers. After enjoying massive success in the Asia-Pacific region, Xiaomi is poised to offer the Redmi 2 Pro stateside. There has been no official announcement but the FCC has just given the go signal for the smartphone, hinting at an eventual US debut, Slash Gear reported.

Bin Lin, president of Xiaomi, also announced at a WSJD event that the company is also looking to sell the Xiaomi Note and Xiaomi Note Pro. These devices were released earlier this year and it is apparent that the company is looking to shed off its "Apple copycat" reputation.

Xiaomi was founded in 2010 and released its first smartphone in August 2011. It has come a long way from those days and recently got a boost from investors to the tune of $1.1 billion. This, by and large, makes it the world's most valuable tech startup, the Venture Capitalist Post noted.

This sort of funding is enough for it to go head to head with other tech giants in the region, most notable Alibaba. Gadget 360 describes Xiaomi as "an Internet company with the potential to cross swords with titans such as Alibaba."

BGR also leaked some specs of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro. The smartphone will sport a 4.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and a Snapdragon 410 chipset with 2GB RAM. The smartphone also hints at 16GB internal storage, 2,200mAh battery, and updated connectivity options like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Redmi 2 Pro also seems to be identical to the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime that was produced and sold in India. If that is the case, then it should also come with a 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel selfie camera. Software of the Redmi 2 Prime will also be updated from MIUI 6 to MIUI 7.
