To those who have moved away to sunnier climates and missed the beautiful autumn foliage that grows in parts of North America and New England, worry no more because you can have three perfectly preserved New England autumn leaves for $19.99 in Ship Foliage.
As reported in the Boston Globe, this is the latest business venture of Boston entrepreneur Kyle Waring, who was also known to try the "Ship Snow" to warmer places this year. Waring is said to launch a new website called Ship Foliage where people can purchase colourful autumn leaves without trekking the Green or White Mountains.
Waring's seasonal venture promises to ship gorgeous fall foliage across the United States as stated on the website
"When I was looking at foliage, I didn't see anywhere that sold foliage, and it seemed like an untapped market," said Waring. . "All leaves are collected from New England, and undergo a unique preservation process," the website also adds.
The beautiful preserved leaves are collected from trails and spots across New England. This is called the collection phase wherein Waring, his wife and their two Italian greyhounds try to search for the perfect leaves. Each leaf is selected carefully and those selected are branded Grade A foliage. They are said to venture out every weekend around Hamilton, Manchester-by-the-sea, Lincoln, Tuckerman Ravine on Mt. Washington and Lake Winnipesaukee as reported by Oddity Central.
"I inspect every leaf to make sure that there's no holes from bugs eating the leaves and also to make sure there's no rips in the leaves," Waring told The Guardian. "I make sure the color of the leaf is a really strong, vibrant color that someone would enjoy and kind of resonate with the foliage in the fall." He ends up using only about 10 out of every 100 leaves he collects.
After which, the selected leaves are soaked and dried out in glycerine and water for a week-long preservation process.
"The process enhances the foliage color contrast and also preserves the leaves for years to come. Each bundle of leaves is color balanced, 1 red, 1 yellow, and 1 green or mixed leaf. Leaves are approximately 3'x6′." The package includes a handwritten notes that can be customized for free.
This is just one of the many crazy business ventures that Waring ha entered. He has a long list of business ideas that were far from being successful. However, he is still on the lookout for new ideas. "I'm always building something new and something quirky so I've got some ideas floating around," he said. "Maybe I'll launch something come spring."
