Is Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn Breaking Up With The Joker In 'Suicide Squad?' [SPOILERS]

[POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

Harley Quinn and The Joker have been together for a long time, and it may be difficult to imagine the two supervillains breaking up despite their rather unhealthy relationship. However, director David Ayer may have decided to give Margot Robbie's bad girl a new attitude, saying that 'Suicide Squad' will reveal a Harley Quinn who has had enough of her psychopathic boyfriend.

"It's about her breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualized, independent person," Ayer said of Harley Quinn. "That really is a metaphor for everyone's journey here."

The Joker will not be happy to hear about his girl breaking away from him, especially not if she's moving on with a new man. According to Will Smith, there might be some sparks flying between Harley Quinn and Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot.

"Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot's actually eyeballing her a little bit," Smith said. "There's a pretty ragged romantic triangle there."

It sounds like the movie will be taking some pointers from the storyline of the animated film 'Batman: Assault of Arkham,' where the two villains have a one night stand. However, there is a possibility that the relationship between Harley Quinn and Deadshot could last longer than that in 'Suicide Squad.' After all, Margot Robbie and Will Smith have previously worked together in the movie 'Focus,' where they had certain chemistry.

In addition to admitting some flirtation with Harley Quinn, Will Smith offered a few details about his character and how he ended up in prison.

"As the movie opens, he has a really big career score," he said. "He's looking to turn over a new leaf with his daughter after the hit, but it goes wrong. It goes terribly, terribly wrong. And it lands him in Belle Reve for life."

'Suicide Squad' crashes into theaters on August 5, 2016.
