Stephen Colbert in ‘The Late Show’ Mocks Starbucks Holiday Cup Controversy

It's almost Christmas which means we're going to be seeing a lot of snowflakes, reindeers, pine trees, white, red and green this next couple of months to celebrate the Holiday Season. However, with Starbucks changing the design of their Holiday cup, people have reacted and most were outraged with the move. Stephen Colbert tackles this controversy in The Late Show.

It appears that Starbucks customers are disappointed that they are not getting a much more Christmassy cup. The plain red cup has the customers feeling unforgiving and some even took to social media to express their rage. So, it's not just coffee leaving a bitter taste in their mouths then?

"Yes, they got rid of the Christmas religious symbols like snowflakes and snowmen" Colbert said in his show.

In response to customer feeback, Starbucks addressed the public that the simple design is a way for customers to "create their own stories with the red cup that mimics a blank canvas." Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks Vice President of Design and Content said in a statement "This year, we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."

Colbert known for his sarcastic humor is obviously poking fun at the controversy and sarcastically promoting both the customers' outrage and Starbucks holiday cup. But it's still funny.

To make it even more funnier and possibly to hit some nerves, Colbert produced a much more Christmassy cup with so much Christmas ornaments on top of a Christmas tree, even. "Remember Starbucks: Christmas is the season for giving into any demand anyone makes on the Internet," Colbert said. "Which is why I say don't fight this. Give the customers a cup crammed so full of Christmas, they'll be picking tinsel out of their Yule log for months."
