New Jersey Governor Loses 85 Pounds After Surgery

The New Jersey governor and potential Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie has reportedly lost an amazing 85 pounds! The New Jersey governor reported to possible donors that the loss had been made possible through a lap-band surgery.

Chris Christie told donors who had attended an event hosted by billionaire David Koch in New York City just how much weight he had lost after a lap-band surgery was performed on him last year. The fund raising at Mr Koch's New York residence was in aid of a conservative organization, Americans for Prosperity. The organization is well known in Republican circles for playing big money in the tea party politics.

During the event, Governor Christie was hard pressed on his health. He opened up to the donors on his struggle with his weight. He said that he had decided to have the weight loss surgery for his long term health. At one point, he got some hearty laughs from the crowd when he quipped, "A doctor once told me you have to have the right relationship with the food you eat. And believe me, for many years, I had a great relationship with the foods I ate."

The New Jersey governor added that he had the lap- band surgery, also known as gastric band surgery, done on him as he knew he had be healthier if he wanted to seek higher office. The governor had the surgery done on him in February 2013, about the same time a White House physician Connie Mariano expressed concerns that Christie might die in high office if he did not do something about his weight.

Lap band surgery is a medical procedure where an adjustable belt is placed around the upper stomach using a laparascope. The band is made of pure silicon and can be tightened by inserting saline to fill the band through a port placed under the skin at the abdomen.

A recent trip to Mexico was yet another strong indicator that the republican conservative may be aiming for the top seat. Christie is already doing well among the GOP presidential candidates in the latest polls.
