An Easy Guide to Understanding Starbucks' Cup Sizes, Learn How to Pronounce Grande the Right Way

More often than not, a lot of Starbucks aficionados don't really know what the cup sizes are or what the difference between each is. Well, to make it easier for you, plus save you from the embarrassment of having to order the wrong sized cup, here's everything you need to know about Starbucks' cup sizes.

Recently, Starbucks had updated their cup sizes to five types. The first type is the short size, which not a lot of people know about since no one orders this size much often. This cup is available for hot beverages and can contain only 8 ounces.

Up next is the tall cup, which is one cup size offered by the Seattle coffee chain. While the short can contain only 8 ounces, the tall cup can hold 12 ounces of your favorite Starbucks drink. This amount is certainly enough to get you through your Monday morning at the office.

The third cup on the list is the grande, which can hold up to 16 ounces. Ironically, the grande cup is usually the most mispronounced. While some say it as "grand-day," it is actually pronounced as "grawn-day. Grande is large in the Spanish, French, and Italian language. However, at Starbucks, their grande cup is certainly not the only large cup type.

This leads to the fourth Starbucks cup type which is the Venti. This is larger than the grande and can carry 20 ounces.

So what's the fifth cup type? It would be none other than the Trenta. This cup is not available for all drinks on the Starbucks menu. For those who would want a Trenta sized cup, the only offerings for this cup size are the Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade, Cold Brew, Starbucks Refreshers, and Iced Coffee. Trenta can hold up to 30 ounces of fluid. Too bad though it's not available for hot beverages, especially for days (and nights) you might need the coffee most.
