Popeyes Launches Beignets Nationwide For Limited Time

To entice more consumers to its restaurants during the holiday season, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is adding chocolate beignets to its menu, and it is available nationwide.

According to CNBC, the fried chicken chain owned by Restaurant Brands International is currently carrying a broader menu strategy. Part of this is introducing more regularly used desserts to attract customers. Currently, the only permanent dessert on its menu is the cinnamon apple pie. However, they also offer limited-time dessert, which is sometimes only available regionally.

Chocolate Beignets

However, according to CNN, starting Monday, Popeye's will introduce beignets. These are deep-fried pastry Starting Monday, the beignets, which are a deep-fried pastry that Popeyes stuffed with Hershey's chocolate.

The beignets are a famous staple of New Orleans, where Popeyes was founded. Originally, the Chocolate Beignet is a yummy pastry with chocolate sauce inside and is coated with sugar on the outside.

The new product will be offered for a limited time in three, six, and 12-packs and is priced at $1.99, $3.99, and $7.49, respectively.

According to Popeyes' President of the Americas, Sami Siddiqui, the new product was tested last October in Boston and several other Northeastern markets and received favorable customer feedback. As a result, Popeye's is making its beignets available nationwide.

Last October, the Chocolate Beignets was launched together with their Raspberry Cheesecake Pie. While the Chocolate Beignets is only available as a limited edition at select locations at that time, the Raspberry Cheesecake Pie became the restaurant's latest offering to its line-up of irresistible pies.

As part of their promotion, Popeye's leveraged the fact that eating beignets can be a deliciously "messy" experience. The company is also offering a $35 "Beignet Camo" black hoodie decorated with white splotches that look like splashes of powdered sugar. This can be seen on a 30-second ad promoting its chocolate beignets on YouTube posted by Popeye's.

Chicken Sandwich: True Sales Maker

However, Popeye's also acknowledges that it is unlikely to surpass its chicken sandwich's success, which was added to its menus nationwide more than a year ago. Since the launch of this sandwich, Popeyes has reported double-digit same-store sales growth every quarter, even amid the pandemic.

Last October, RBI revealed that Popeyes was the only chain to report positive same-store sales growth thanks to its chicken sandwich's popularity.

Those declines from Taco Bell, Burger King, and Tim Hortons were partially offset by an increase in system-wide sales at Popeyes. Additionally, its year-over-year sales surged by about 42% to $1.3 billion during the last three months of 2019.

Moreover, this product's launch sparked a chicken sandwich war between the biggest fast-food chains nationwide.

Additionally, immediately after the product was introduced, Popeye's announced that they have sold through our inventory due to unprecedented demand and the chicken sandwich was temporarily unavailable for some time.

Related reports also revealed that Popeye's chicken sandwich demand was so high that long lines were reported at some locations and others even tried to sell the sandwich on eBay for $7,000.
