Coca-Cola Recalls 2,000 Sprite, Coke, Fanta Across States Due to Contamination Risks

Accidents can occur anywhere, even when we take security measures, especially in businesses concentrating on food production. Recently, Coca-Cola, one of the largest and oldest companies in the world, has issued a recall for almost 2,000 bottles of Sprite, Coca-Cola, and Fanta across the United States due to the possibility of contamination.

Based on a report from ABC News, three soda products manufactured by Coca-Cola have been voluntarily recalled across numerous states. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced in a report that the 12-ounce bottles may have become tainted with possible 'foreign material.'

As mentioned, the recall affected 1,557 cases of Sprite, 417 cases of Diet Coke, and 14 cases of Fanta Orange, including 12 packs of 12-ounce cans. There was reportedly a distribution of sodas throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. On Monday, Nov. 6, United Packers, LLC, which is situated in Alabama, started the recall, and the infected products are;

As per Today, it was not specified by the FDA what kind of foreign substance might have been present in the cans. Thus, in accordance with FDA regulations, the recall was categorized as a Class II recall. The organization also asserted that the Class II recalls are issued when there is a reasonable possibility that a product that violates the regulations could result in adverse health effects that are either transient or medically recoverable.

On the other hand, a statement from the Coca-Cola Company noted that the recall has been completed and that no more affected cans are available for purchase. However, this is not the first recall that the Coca-Cola Company has carried out because of 'foreign material.'

Previous Product Recall on Coca-Cola Products

In 2021, due to the possibility of contamination with foreign objects, the Coca-Cola Company announced that it would be voluntarily recalling 7,475 cases of Minute Maid products across eight states. The FDA explained that the potential presence of metal fasteners or washers in the impacted beverages is the reason for initiating the Coca-Cola recall.

Accordingly, particular lots of Minute Maid Berry Punch, Strawberry Lemonade, and Fruit Punch cartons weighing 59 ounces (1.75 liters) are among the products declared recalled. Some endangered fruit juice items were marketed in eight states, including New York, North Carolina, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. All of the affected goods have expiration dates in January 2022.

On the other hand, it is categorized as a Class II recall by the FDA, which suggests that the contaminated products may induce transient or reversible adverse health effects, in contrast to the Class I recall, which carries the risk of severe adverse health effects or death, or that the probability of serious adverse health effects is exceedingly low. There have been no reports of illness or injury associated with the products as of Dec. 2021.
