Aaron Lewis Apologizes Over “Star Spangled Banner” Mistake: “My Nerves Got The Best Of Me”

Aaron Lewis, frontman of the band "Staind" apologizes for messing up his current version of the "Star Spangled Banner" in a performance at World Series on Sunday.

Lewis, now solo country singer, performed the national anthem before Game 5 of the 2014 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals when he accidentally changed the order of lyrics of the song.

During his performance at AT&T Park, the singer had a minor mistake in the second line singing, "What so proudly we hailed were so gallantly streaming" instead of the correct lyrics, "What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming."

The error created a low grumble among the crowd. Fox Television camera appeared to catch Giants Tim Lincecum, Giants ace telling a comment to a team mate.

People over Twitter commented on the misfortunate event.

Lewis then answered the comments and took to Facebook and his website his apologies and sentiments saying, "All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the Nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened. America is the greatest country in the world. The Star-Spangled Banner means so much to so many, including myself. I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and my true intent of this performance. I hope that the Nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of our national pastime can forgive me."

A week before his World Series performance, he even commented on how Christina Aguilera had a mistake also singing the national anthem.

Last year, James Taylor, a folk singer also made a mistake singing the national anthem before Game 2  of the World Series at Boston's Fenway Park.
