George Lucas Museum: ‘Star Wars’ And ‘Indiana Jones’ Creator Builds Futuristic-Looking Museum In Chicago, NOT In a Galaxy Far Far Away!

Geeks all over the world, and particularly Chicago, rejoice at the fact that George Lucas' museum is coming up - and the man who created "Star Wars" will have a beautiful place to show off his work!

The George Lucas museum will have more things to show than just "Star Wars," as the director's career has spanned over four decades, starting from his first feature film, the science fiction classic "THX 1138" - a movie that, as fans know, is featured in every other film the famous writer, producer, director and special effects mogul has made.

As far as the actual building of the George Lucas museum is concerned, the man behind "Indiana Jones" showed his project to the authorities of several American cities before finally getting a spot in Chicago, according to A.V. Club. Earlier this summer, the Windy City government offered Lucas a good portion of land right along Lake Michigan, near the Shedd Aquarium.

It had been a long bid for the man who created Han Solo and the Skywalker family, who had previously tried to create the George Lucas museum in his native city of San Francisco, though the Bay City apparently wasn't interesting in sporting a new art center, or at least not that one.

The official name of the place will be the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and the plans for its building show that it'll also look quite futuristic. According to the George Lucas museum's website, the architect behind it was Ma Yansong, and the design was based on the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe, attempting to integrate the natural beauty of the lake and the park that surrounds the building.

If the building becomes a reality, it might turn into one of the landmarks of the city of Chicago, much like the Opera House in Sydney, as the idea is fairly similar - a futuristic-looking building at the very shore of the big city, which is one of the entrances to the city and can be the first thing people see when they come into town from the sea.

While fans around the world expect the George Lucas museum to be solely about "Star Wars" and his other works, the Chicago Tribune has denied these claims, exposing that Lucas himself has said that the idea had been "blown out of proportion" - and, rather than a museum just featuring characters like R2D2 and the infamous Jar Jar Binks, the new venue will actually be dedicated to Lucas' all-time love: films.

Lucas first started his career as a geeky film student with a love for old movies in the 60s - he studied the career that would make him a millionaire at the University of Southern California (USC), one of the first colleges in the world to create a filmmaking career.

Not long after, he'd meet other directors that would become legendary in their own right, such as Steven Spielberg (with whom he co-created the "Indiana Jones" movies) and Francis Ford Coppola, who's created film classics such as "The Godfather" trilogy and the Vietnam war film "Apocalypse Now."

With this new endeavor of the George Lucas museum, the director has now decided to give a little back to film through this venue. After having some trouble finding the perfect spot for this museum, the website for the upcoming place shows all the projected activities.

According to LucasMuseum.org, the site will be a whole new way to look at museums. They'll have exhibitions, lectures and educational outreach including some of the top people in the industry of visual media - from movies to gaming and even comic books - who will no doubt be honored to work with George Lucas, a man who has turned into a legend for geeks around the world.
