Aging Reversed In Mice: First Experiments Successful On Rodents, But Could Humans Be Able To Age Backwards?

In the constant fight against aging and trying to set the bar higher when it comes to average lifespans, new research has shown an amazing trend: aging reversed in mice.

According to the Toronto Sun, a new study set forth by researchers from American and Australian universities could be the way to the future of cosmetics, after it was proven that aging was reversed in mice. The experiments that saw aging reversed in mice proved extremely successful, and the team is looking forward to trying out the treatment in humans as well.

The study, a joint effort of scientists from two of the world's top research facilities in the world (Harvard University and the University of New South Wales), showed aging reversal in mice. How? Through genetic handling!

To manage to get aging reversed in mice, the researchers changed up older genes for youthful ones, feeding the rodents with a molecule by the name of NMN, which amazingly enough, after just a week of treatment, completely overturned aging in muscles.

"We've discovered genes that control how the body fights against ageing and these genes, if you turn them on just the right way, they can have very powerful effects, even reversing ageing - at least in mice so far," said David Sinclair, the leader of the group of researchers and a professor of genetics in the two universities that took part in the study.

Earlier this year, Sinclair was named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the world for his work in genetics, as he has been working towards age reversal for years now. Just last year, he discovered that a chemical called NAD can actually reverse the aging process in cells - and this year, he's continued to work on this area.

Sinclair has stated that after the successful experiments of aging reversed in mice, he and his team have actually started working this treatment on human subjects, and have seen the first favorable results.

This could potentially mean a huge medical turn, not only cosmetically but for the fight of diseases and the ultimate goal of extending lifespans for as long as possible.
