Will Smith Never Spoke To Jared Leto on Suicide Squad Set

It looks like Jared Leto really went to extreme lengths to prepare for his role as The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad film. The academy award winner has drawn a lot of attention as of late for his hardcore method approach to the clown prince of crime.

Back in June, it was revealed that Leto sent his co-star Margot Robbie a gift wrapped box with a live rat inside. Will Smith, who plays the villainous assassin Deadshot in the film, received a bunch of bullets. The rest of his cast mates were treated to an entire hog carcass complete with a video message from Leto in full Joker-mode.

Smith further elaborated on Leto's intense commitment to the part in a recent interview. Speaking with Zane Lowe of Apple Music's Beats 1 radio show, Smith revealed that he never even spoke to Leto during the 6 months of filming. He said,

I've never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' We've never said 'Hello' or 'Good day.' I've only ever spoken to him with me as Deadshot and him as The Joker. I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' Not a single word exchanged off-camera. He was all in on the Joker.

To see the fruits of Leto's labor, we'll have to wait until August 5, 2016. The David Ayer directed film includes an all-star cast that features Leto as The Joker, Smith as Deadshot. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, and  Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg. Other members of the team include Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang and Plastique.
