In her new documentary series, 'Belief', Oprah Winfrey explores the spiritual journeys of different people across the world.
CBS News reports the seven-night series which will premiere this weekend on Oprah Winfrey Network will feature a great discovery of what binds people of different beliefs and in different places together.
"There's a deep yearning for -- and that's what 'Belief' speaks to -- the yearning for something greater than yourself," Winfrey said on CBS This Morning on Wednesday. "Because if you're only living a life for yourself, you will find that you end up feeling lost many times."
The media mogul, who's net worth is $3 Billion, was inspired to present this program at the time her network was struggling on its early stages. "Oftentimes when you're going through a challenge, it forces you particularly to go inward and think about 'What do I really want and what do I really want to achieve?'" she said.
That's when she came across her purpose of creating a network that could "drop pieces of light into other people's consciousness" and tell stories that could touch people's hearts.
"I had seen 'Planet Earth' on Discovery and fell in love with Earth and wanted to do something that would do the same thing," she continued. That "would have the same kind of impact through people's hearts and through their spirits."
So she prayed, "alright, God, show me the way, what should I do?" Her prayer was answered few days after when Part Two Pictures pitched another idea for a program. She was told about Belief and she knew that was it.
According to Winfrey, the series doesn't entirely focus on religion as one character feature presented himself as an atheist.
"It's eavesdropping on people's beliefs," she explained. "Because I know from my own personal upbringing that belief defines who you actually become in the world."
Working on the documentary, Winfrey was personally awakened by her discovery: "the connection in all real faiths that reveal the character of God is that there is compassion, there is kindness, and ultimately love."
