Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez decided to end their two year marriage and recently filed for divorce to legalize the separation, citing irreconcilable differences.
According to multiple sources the estranged couple's "fiery personalities" led to frequent arguments and eventually to their separation. But one source insisted that "Martinez's temper was the last straw for Berry," PEOPLE reported.
"Oliver comes from a world where he was easily intimidated by her ability to work and that she was the breadwinner. He was emasculated by her beauty and her power, and his temper could erupt," the source close to the couple revealed to the media outlet.
The source said that Martinez was so "possessive" towards Berry that often led to the estranged couple's quarrel but insisted the he never abused her physically.
The source explained, "He was never physically abusive towards her. He was very possessive in a very kind of caveman way but was never abusive to her or the family." Adding, "He had an explosive temper in a way that was profoundly frightening. You never knew when he would explode."
The source further claimed that Martinez had a problem when it comes to managing his temper and apparently Berry got tired of dealing with it.
"Olivier has definite anger management issues. I think this was coming for a long time and [Berry was] not wanting to have to do this," the source said.
The source asserts Olivier's "unpredictable temper" is the real reason behind why the pair broke up. "In any sort of situation, you never know what will get his temper up - and it's unnerving to live with that. Imagine that every single day," the source added.
Martinez is currently facing a $5 million lawsuit for allegedly shoving an employee at a Los Angeles International Airport. Back in 2012, he also got into altercation with Halle's ex Gabriel Aubry, the father of her daughter, Nahla.
Olivier Martinez is yet to comment.
