The Story Behind the 52,000-Pound Nationwide Recall of Chicken Wings

On Monday, Nov. 16, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Tyson Foods Inc., of Pine Bluff, Arkansas is recalling an approximately 52,486 pounds of chicken wing product after it has been suspected to be adulterated because of having an "off odor" scent.

The fully cooked buffalo style chicken wing was produced on October 24, 2015 and October 25, 2015, respectively. However, the problem emerged when a particular consumer complained about the said product. The consumer claimed that the product gives off a foul odor as well having mild illness associated after consumption. Subsequently after the incident, Tysons have brought this concern to FSIS's attention.

As per Food Safety News, products having the establishment ID number "P-13456" which can be seen inside the USDA mark of inspection and at the back of the packaging seal above the heating instructions, the product is said to have been subjected for a total recall. These items were belived to have been shipped to all retail locations nationwide.

At the moment, there have been no confirmed accounts yet of adverse health reactions because of the consumption of these products. But according to authorities, anyone concerned about showing symptoms of illness or injury should immediately contact a healthcare institution.

Subsequently, in a press release stated by Tyson Foods, the reason why a recall was made was because the product hasn't met the quality standards but they didn't mention whether it really gave an "off-odor" scent or not.

Authorities are also advising the public particularly those who have purchased these products to no longer consume them. Instead, consumers were urged to either return it to the place where they bought the product or to immediately throw it away.

For those concerned about the recall, Tyson Foods Inc. said that they can contact their Consumer Relations to toll free number 866-328-3156.
