It seems like there was a resounding sigh of approval when AMC announced that 'The Walking Dead' has found its Negan in 'Watchmen' actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Fans immediately agreed that it was excellent casting and expressed their excitement over seeing the comic book villain in the second half of Season Six.
But it appears that there is no one more excited about Negan than Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself. The actor recently attended the Supernatural Pascon in Pasadena, where he spoke about getting the coveted role.
"It's gonna be a whole different ballgame," Morgan said before turning to the crowd, "Ya'll know about Negan?" When the audience applauded, the actor admitted, "Me too. It's why I did it."
It sure sounds like Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a huge fan of 'The Walking Dead' and is willing to take on a completely different role for the show. After all, the actor is known for playing relatively good guys on TV. However, the star of 'The Good Wife' didn't hesitate to take on the role of Negan although his agent wasn't initially sure that was the part being offered.
"When my agent/manager called they said, 'You've been offered this thing on The Walking Dead...it's to play this big bad,'" Morgan revealed. "At the time, they didn't know the character's name, because I think it was supposed to be a secret. And I'm like, 'Is it f-king Negan?' And they're like, 'I don't know, we're going to have to call you back, hold on a second.' And I'm like, 'No, it's f-king Negan. And I'm f-king doing it.'"
Jeffrey Dean Morgan also admitted that playing Negan would be a major challenge for him, as he has been used to being the good guy in his TV roles. However, the 'Supernatural' star is optimistic about what he could bring to 'The Walking Dead' villain.
"I think the challenge for me in this role is gonna be: Is there any heart in Negan? And for me, I think of that as a challenge as an actor and that's the kind of thing I embrace and really look forward to," Morgan said.
"I'm super excited about it. It's gonna be cool," he concluded.
