Checkers and Rally vs Burger King: Wiener War Heats Up

Shortly after Burger King announced it's new grilled hotdogs (which the company dubbed as the "Whopper of Hotdogs") and offered two versions of said product in their restaurants, Checkers and Rally's didn't take this lightly and tweeted a challenge to the fast-food giant.

They also posted an ad in USA Today about their sentiment of the Whopper of Hotdogs. In their ad, they declared that they will offer their hot dogs for half the price as an effort to undercut Burger King's price of $.199. The complete content of the ad goes:

Hey Burger King, it's time to compare wieners.

We at Checkers and Rally's are excited Burger King has finally decided to start serving wieners. After all, we've been grilling our tasty dogs for 30 years.

So as Burger King shows their wiener in public for the very first time, we are thrilled to offer our delicious dogs for half the price. That's right, just 79 cents; compared to a buck ninety-nine at Burger King**.

Overcompensating, anyone?

So swing by any Checkers or Rally's and get a wiener that will treat you like a king.

Rick Silva, CEO of Checkers and Rally's, released a statement saying, "We're ready for the fight. We're a proven brand that's getting bigger every day because of our dedication to flavor and value." The company's chief marketing officer, Terri Snyder, added his two cents in about the issue by saying, "Burger King is late to the party and overpriced."

According to CNBC, other hot-dog giants that joined in on the fight include 7-Eleven and Wienerschnitzel. Both companies sent out tweets regarding Burger King's new product, with Wienerschnitzel even posting an ad of their own.

However, not all of the competitors are riled up with this new development. Sonic, with more than 3,500 establishments, simply tweeted twice about the quality of their hotdog since Burger King made the announcement.
