Bethesda Softworks' popular mobile game 'Fallout Shelter' finally has a confirmed release date for Android devices. Android users can start building their own nuclear survival bunkers when the game hits the play store on August 13.
The game was originally unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June for iOS devices. It places people in the role of an 'overseer'. The overseer is tasked with building and managing their own 'Vault', an underground installation that serves as protection from the harsh nuclear wasteland. Players must properly manage resources, train inhabitants, and fend off attacks from the outside world in order to turn their Vault into a formidable fortress capable of handling anything.
What sets the game apart from similar building and tower management games is the rich and unique backstory provided by the Fallout Universe. Fallout Shelter is filled with the quirky humour and retro sci-fi feel of its bigger console counterparts.
In addition to the Android release, August 13 will also see the release of Mr. Handy, a new character that aids players in resource gathering and other tasks. He was previously seen in the gameplay demo of Fallout 4, the next game in the series.
The game has received mixed reviews so far with the biggest criticism being the game's lack of endgame content and the imbalanced difficulty curve that makes thing to easy once your vault is up and running. Here's what IGN said back in June:
Fallout Shelter is at its best early on: when your fledgling vault is barely able to scrape by, and every raider attack has the potential to topple your fragile society. Once your vault is firmly established, all fear of losing, and thus the fun, fades away.
