Diwali: Celebrate Motherhood for this Year's Hindu Festival

Diwali - pronounced as Deepavali or the "festival of lights" - is an annual tradition in Hindu festival celebrated in autumn in northern hemisphere and during spring in southern hemisphere. With food, family and fireworks, Diwali is celebrated by Hindus across the world today.

This year, the festival highlight's being a woman or motherhood to be specific. And this is what a new mother, Vishva Samani started to realize.

According to Vishva, it was her first time to celebrate Diwali as a mother and she hasn't done any preparations for the said event.

From cleaning the house to hosting their whole extended family, Vishva recalls that she used to rely on her mom for everything. However, as she gets older, she had also reached the point where she has already realized that sooner or later she also needs to be independent and take the motherly roles herself.

As a religion that is rich in symbolism, Diwali is one of the most popular festivals by the Hindus and considered as a day for families, feast and fireworks.

As it is believed, it is a day when the divine feminine Goddess Lakshmi was in the form of a devotional prayer or "puja". Goddess Lakshmi became more of a familiar household icon when she was named as the goddess of wealth.

For Hindus, more than just being a symbol of getting rich quicker, Goddess Lakshmi is also believed to embody what it really means to be rich in spiritual values.

And being a first time mom, Vishva claims that her devotion to the said icon that she refers as 'Mother Lakshmi' stands for all those amazing yet unimaginable things that a woman only does when she becomes a mom.

Vishva is now considering her ability to come up with greater preparations for future celebrations in a way that was like her mom's. With her pregnancy ahead of her, Vishva is set to enjoy her first Diwali festival together with her baby daughter.
