Patti LuPone (the American actress and singer who is famous for her work in stage musicals) and the actress who appeared both off-Broadway and on Broadway in the musical Grey Gardens - Christine Ebersole, are on board to star in the world premiere of the new musical - "War Paint," by the creative team of the 1975 film - "Grey Gardens."
The new musical - War Paint, is written by American composer and musical director Scott Frankel, along with the American playwright, librettist, and screenwriter - Doug Wright and Michael Korie (the American librettist and lyricist). The new musical follows the conflict between cosmetics company Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein. The Brooklyn born stage director - Michael Greif helms the musical's premiere will be held at Chicago's Goodman Theater, and the production will kick-start the performances in June.
Scott Frankel, Doug Wright, Michael Greif, Christine Ebersole and Michael Korie - all previously collaborated in the musical adaptation of the 1975 documentary "Grey Gardens," and after a successful Off Broadway run in 2006, the production then went on to perform later that year on Broadway, earning Tony Awards for Christine Ebersole and her co-star - the American stage, film and television actress - Mary Louise Wilson.
"War Paint" the musical is based on Lindy Woodhead's 2003 book, and on the 2007 documentary of Arnie Reisman and Ann Carol Grossman - "The Powder and the Glory."
Patti LuPone (who will play Rubinstein), the 2006 American Theater Hall of Fame inductee, was last witnessed onstage in New York in Douglas Carter Beane play "Shows for Days," and while the cast of the 2013 film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' - Christine Ebersole, plays Arden.
